What is Vets In the City?
Vets in the City was an idea hatched by Dr Jan E Hale in 2005 to provide a service to the Sarasota area that would help people who are not so mobile or their pets are not so mobile and also pets that just don't like to travel like cats and some dogs. What he found was that many families are very busy being families and it was difficult for them to manage a trip to vets. You can imagine two dogs, several children and maybe a cat or two all getting in the car and driving to a place where the pets will either be nervous or excited and the children have to sit still and not touch anything. Sound like fun? Today, for many families, it requires both parents to work to make ends meet and then you have to factor In taking a day or afternoon off work to arrange the trip to the Veterinarian's office. Of course not all pet owners face these obstacles and they manage quite well. But for those who don't Vets in the City has been a warmly received option. Dr Hale states, "the difference I see in the behavior and comfort level of the pets really adds a new joy to my job and I don't have to make a diagnosis around the masking of symptoms due to anxiety. I can do a better job of finding out what is really wrong with a pet and what isn't wrong."
